Day 23 Results Of The MAD Challenge #themadchallenge

The Mad Challenge image for day 23

Day 23 of The MAD Challenge began with the realisation that I hadn’t taken any pain relief prior to going to bed last night. After completing the mile a day challenge yesterday morning, I walked maybe 2-3 miles during the day as well whilst I was out.

Admittedly yesterday the pain relief made it much easier to complete this so I had that to compare to this morning.

Day 22 of The MAD Challenge and I am home again after my exploits in Norway.

The journey back involved 2 flights. This in itself is not so bad yet both flights involved me having to walk up and down long flights of stairs for each plane. One section involved a long walk down one set of stairs then an immediate walk up another set into the terminal. All whilst carrying luggage too.

Day 21 Results Of The MAD Challenge #themadchallenge

I’ll have to keep Day 21 of The MAD Challenge brief. I’m about to check out of my Norwegian hotel and head to the airport so I have very little time.

Whilst my hip was painful yesterday morning it seemed to ease over the afternoon. To one point in the late afternoon I was moving more freely than I have in a week. I was beginning to become hopefully that recovery was well on the way.

On Day 20 of The MAD Challenge the first word that springs to my mind is “Ouch”. Yes, “Ouch” is definitely my word of the day.

When I woke up my left knee (that is the leg with the hip injury) felt quite stiff. I immediately wondered if my current walking technique, to overcome my injury, was potentially triggering new injuries such as in my knee.

Day 19 And What Is Cross Training For Runners? #themadchallenge

The Mad Challenge image for day 19

As I begin Day 19 of The MAD Challenge I awoke with the effects of my first proper experience of cross training. However cross training for runners with an injury is maybe not a good idea. As I found out.

As I’ve researched online for advice on how to become a runner I’ve seen two messages shine through. They are:-

Day 18 Results Of The MAD Challenge #themadchallenge

I said yesterday that as I now complete The MAD Challenge it is more about the speed of my recovery rather than the time I can cover a mile. This really came to the fore today, in Day 18 of The MAD Challenge.

Awaking early yet again I was looking to complete a lovely walk by the marina of Kristiansand just as the sun rises. The streets are virtually empty and the place is just idyllic. It even has some sand sculptures!

Day 16 of The MAD Challenge only confirmed the extent of my injury. I am still hobbling and there doesn’t feel as though there has been any improvement after resting up overnight.

If I put any weight on my left leg there is clear pain. Even just putting my jeans on this morning revealed how much it hurts.

Day 15 Of The MAD Challenge – I’m Injured

The Mad Challenge image for day 15

Day 15 of The MAD Challenge and there is no denying it anymore. I am injured and quite badly too.

In recent days I’ve mentioned growing concerns of injuries and they have now clearly hurt me.

I started having concerns earlier in the week with water retention causing fluid around my right ankle. I’ve been treating it in various ways such as eating more bananas, wearing compression socks and taking water retention tablets. This seems to have had a positive impact since the swelling has reduced. However my ankle still feels weak and vulnerable.

I am now on Day 14 which means that I’m at the end of Week 2 of The MAD Challenge. Nearly half way with two and a half weeks to go.

Very much in line with weather predictions the ground was wet from rain this morning. I was expecting to actually be running in the rain but thankfully that didn’t happen. It was all rained out before I began.
